Strasbourg. Eating disorders: “often misunderstood pathologies”

What are TCAkéso’s missions and motivations?
"Founded and run by young women, mostly students, TCAkéso's mission is to raise awareness and awareness of mental disorders, which affect more than 600,000 young people in France. Its creation was motivated by the observation that there are still too few specialized health facilities and trained and competent professionals on this subject. This poses a public health problem, as a lack of understanding of these disorders leads to misdiagnosis and even medical error. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that eating disorders (EDs) are the second leading cause of premature mortality among 14-25 year-olds!"

What are the association's main activities to raise awareness, prevent eating disorders and support those affected?
"The association's mission is to provide support and answers to people who are suffering and their loved ones, who often find themselves helpless, even powerless, in the face of the situation. It aims to be a partner on a daily basis, offering monthly meetings in the form of art therapy workshops, music therapy, therapeutic education and adapted sports sessions. All this with the aim of allowing isolated people to get out of their homes, to meet other people going through similar ordeals, and thus to become aware of certain harmful mechanisms."
“Rediscover the pleasure of a shared meal”What is the aim of the annual picnic at the Orangerie this Saturday, July 19?
"The objective of this event is multiple. Firstly, it is about opening a friendly, caring and unifying space, at the crucial moment of lunch. And this, to allow participants to rediscover, if only for a moment, the pleasure of a shared meal. Let us remember that eating disorders are pathologies that are extremely isolating, making it necessary to hold our moments of meeting, with a view to supporting patients and recreating social bonds.

This event is open to all and 100% free, celebrating the association's second anniversary. We hope to meet people with eating disorders, their caregivers, or loved ones who want to learn more about these often misunderstood conditions.
Finally, through a speaking circle that will punctuate this event, we hope to enable everyone to (re)find hope in healing, thanks to the inspiring stories of people who have overcome the disease.
